The BBC has created this excellent video, called “Malta: Nurse of the Mediterranean”.
Doctors in WW1 were tasked with treating casualties unlike any they had seen before. Dr Kevin Fong explores how Malta pushed its medical traditions to earn the name the Nurse of the Mediterranean.

Gawdenz and his secretary “Mary” at Tal-Lira a few years ago.. these are two popular Maltese characters from the tv show ‘Gawdenz’.
Gawdenz played by actor Fabian Scerri De Carlo ended up in an Italia Uno spot too.

Firelight has made it to the Final of Eurovision 2014.. They will be singing “Coming Home” tonight.
Firelight is a folk band, which was set up in 2013. Richard, their lead singer tried out for The X Factor UK the same year Leona Lewis won, making it through to bootcamp.
It represented Malta in Eurovision 2014.
Malta ended up in 23rd place with a total of 32 votes. Very much unlike last year when Gianluca Bezzina ended up in 8th place.
Malta received 10 points from the UK and 12 from Italy. We gave 12 points to Italy too.
Conchita Wurst from Austria has won this year’s Eurovision with the ballad “Rise Like A Phoenix”.

Earlier this year, Firelight won the Malta Eurovision Song Contest.
Maltese tv presenter Nirvana Azzopardi has lost her fight against breast cancer.

The 40 year old and mother of 2, died at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Since two years ago, she was suffering from an aggressive and rare form of breast cancer.
A walk in solidarity for her and against breast cancer was done in St Julians last January.
The cancer eventually effected her kidneys and even though several attempts were made, she lost her life.
Meanwhile, during these two years Nirvana had sued her Private Consultant for a misdiagnosis.
Nirvana prepared her own funeral and wrote a letter which was read by Fr Claude Portelli at the funeral.
She wrote “Do not wait until you are sick to tell the people you love that you love them…” among other things.
