Voting for European Parliament representatives UPDATED

Spread the love

>>UPDATE:
81% of the electorate voted.

UNOFFICIAL:
49% MLP
40% PN
10% AD
1% INDEPENDENTS and OTHER PARTIES

It is UNOFFICIALLY estimated that two MLP and two PN candidates have been elected. Apparently the
Alternattiva candidate has not obtained enough votes (from those who usually vote PN) to get a seat. It is to be seen if those votes go to MLP or PN, and it is entirely possible that it will go to MLP, giving the party which was anti-EU a majority of seats (3) in the European Parliament. Some of their candidates are still euro-sceptics to this day and have said it loud and clear. The PM Dr Lawrence Gonzi had mentioned this possibility as a result of people voting for Alternattiva Demokratika instead of PN. This is what happened.

PN's Joe Saliba said that the majority of votes went towards Labour (MLP).

The Bishops of Malta and Gozo had stated that it is one's duty as catholics to vote for those candidates who were not pro-abortion, pro-divorce etc, but it seems that the electorate did not follow this. In fact many people interviewed on tv even were not aware of this statement of the Bishops.

On Satuday 12th June 2004 Malta and Gozo voted for its European Parliament representatives.

You can find information at the European Parliament website or at the Electoral Commision website. The latter site will publish results too.

Goldrake’s Theme Found In Malta’s Eurovision Entry?

Spread the love

Malcolm Zammit wrote in today’s Times about how
Goldrake’s theme is apparently found in Malta’s Eurovision entry, On Again Off Again, by Philip Vella (seen in the faked photo with Goldrake) . I disagree actually and I cannot see that it was lifted – it’s sounds different to me. Also he is incorrect in sayingĀ that it plays only using Windows Media Player. I use Media Player Classic and it plays well just the same.

One of the weekly highlights of my childhood in the late 1970s was huddling up in front of the TV with my cousins to watch Goldrake save the earth from alien attack.

This was one of the first UFO cartoons to hit our airwaves (courtesy of RAI).

Like many other childhood experiences, Goldrake was relegated to the nether regions of memory a long time ago. It rocketed back to consciousness when I heard On Again… Off Again . A few bars into our latest Eurovision Song Contest offering and anyone who remembers Goldrake’s Italian signature tune (Albertelli/Tempera/Bandini, 1978, Cetra) will immediately spot the uncanny resemblance.

You can download a video of the opening or closing of the Goldrake sequence at http://www.actarus.it/Robots/robots_file/goldrake/video.htm… (requires Windows Media Player) or listen to a midi-version at http://www.thejackal.it/index/goldrake.htm by clicking on the white box just below the headline.

I have also attached an image I have generated on my computer. I’m sure Philip Vella will take it lightly!

Fans of Goldrake should know that a fan project is underway to produce a non-profitĀ Goldrake fan movie called “The Ufo” by the GTGroup. These are the same who created a fan movie for Lupin 3 (Called “1 MINUTE FOR AN HERO” by Telecioccaweb International from the original Warinhari-TCI motion picture “5 MINUTES FOR AN HERO”).

Some DVD’s are out of the original series yet they are in Japanese. There’s no demand for an english version yet an italian version should be out later this year.

Malta Ends up in 12th place in ESC2004, Ukraine Wins

Spread the love

Ukraine with their ‘cave-women’ dance won this years
Eurovision Song Contest (called quite rightly the campest show in the world). A large number of the acts including Ukraine were plain indecent or vulgar, and they couldn’t sing at all.

Most countries voted as usual for their neighbours…
People don’t vote for the best song but for the neighbour countries instead.

Julie and Ludwig represented Malta in this festival, with ‘On Again Off Again’. Malta ended up at 12th place which means we don’t need to do the semifinals or preselection next year. But we didn’t get the success we got with Ira Losco some years ago or with other singers such as Chiara…

Claire Agius read off Malta’s points, dressed like an indian woman. People abroad thought it was traditional Maltese dress, from some blog comments.

Somebody has actually made a ‘study’ on how countries vote for their neighbours in ESC:

Pope hails entry of 10 new EU nations
Associated Press

Vatican City ? The Pope hailed the entry of 10 new nations, including his native Poland, into the European Union on Sunday and said it must rediscover its Christian roots to deal with diverse cultures and religions.

Pope John Paul has been a staunch supporter of inserting specific reference to the continent's Christian foundations in the new European constitution.

?The unity of the European peoples, if it is to be lasting, cannot however be only economic and political,? he told thousands of tourists and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square for his weekly appearance from his studio window.

The pontiff said that ?the soul of Europe remains united even today because it refers to common human and Christian values.
