Notte Bianca 2010 Programme – Cantilena being Exhibited

This year Malta’s very popular Notte Bianca (White Night) will be held on the 25th September 2010 in Valletta.. hoping the weather holds..

Please note the corrected time for Ya Habibi Dance School.

At Cavalier House in Old Mint Street, Valletta, tonight there will be an exhibition held at the initiative of Lands Parliamentary Secretary Jason Azzopardi, will include the Cantilena by Pietru Caxaru – the oldest record available of the Maltese language. Caxaru’s Cantilena has not been shown in public for the past 10 years.

It was found by Prof. Geoffrey Wettinger and Fr Mikiel Fsadni back in 1966.

Meanwhile here are some of what you can expect this year.

Ya Habibi Dance School (Bellydancing show all night every hour on the hour). Near St James Bastions. Allow yourself to be transported into the fascinating world of oriental music and dance: from the scintillating folkloric moves of the Al Haggalla; the twirling of the Assaya; to the glamorous, lively modern cabaret styles. Performers: Jameelah Sultan (aka Jane Camilleri) and Odette Sammut.

Rise (band performing at Lower Barrakka from midnight to 1am)

Chellcy Reitsma and Fringe Benefits Malta (near the Central Bank and St. James Cavalier). A 20min. show every hour on the hour. Plus a short film about the history of Belly Dance and its many styles and folk traditions from different Mid-East and North African countries

The original Auberge was built by the renowned Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar in 1574. It was extensively re-modelled and virtually rebuilt in 1741, the present plan of the imposing structure attributed to Andrea Belli.
